The Hobby Quest: Aviation Club After School Enrichment
Program description The building and flying of model airplanes has been a popular hobby since the days of the Wright brothers and even before. In The Hobby Quest: Aviation Club, we will build planes from scratch, not starter kits or pre-assembled parts. Each child learns to read plans, work with rulers, make necessary calculations and to distinguish between different hobby tools.
Grades K-5 Through this course, each student will learn about the elementary history, physics and properties of flight. Each student will produce at least two model airplanes from scratch. Cleaning and organization is an essential portion of the course. The program will conclude outdoors where we set our gliders in motion and fly our models.
Other aviation and weather experiments will also be integrated into the course as well as handout sheets and tests. Each student will be well versed in the history, dynamics, physics and properties of flight, aviation and most importantly, craftsmanship.
Middle Schools Our middle school program introduces students to more advanced concepts in aviation and aero modeling. Through these courses we build more complex models and sometimes, even radio controlled airplanes. The students continue to learn about aviation, math, and weather at a higher level than our K-5 programs. The middle schools programs are designed to be the final path towards a lifetime of hobbies and adventures in aviation and its supporting sciences.
Workshops, Events and Summer Programs The Hobby Quest can custom mold a program to fit your schools needs. We are very flexible and can cater to your special requests. Special events such as school fairs, family workshops, summer classes, or anything else you can imagine to show parents that your school goes above and beyond the required curriculum to enrich their student's lives.
Areas of Education In addition to building and flying of the airplanes, a.k.a. "the fun stuff", we also focus and integrate into our program, at an elementary level, several areas of education; Math (basic and geometry), visual arts, history, technology, physics, aerodynamics, metric system, drafting/plans, architecture, woodworking and home economics.
Typical program info • Each session includes education in flight physics and aerodynamics building instruction, materials to build the models, supplies, required tools and flight instruction • Classes will have minimum of 12 children, and maximum of 18 • Each program is typically 8-10 sessions, 3-4 semesters per year • New innovated aviation models will be introduced each semester • Our program is age appropriate. Students will be broken up into age groups depending on the age of students in each school • Our curriculum is partially hand written by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and meets all State and National core standards
